The Oriental Sports
Association was formed in 1983 by Sifu Geoff Rennison. The
OSA system has produced successful tournament fighters in
semi-contact and full contact at national and
international level. In recent years, Geoff has developed
his teachings to a wider audience, focusing on
evidence-based learning programmes. (i.e.,
ensuring that both students & instructors have
documentary evidence of the skills and techniques that
they have learnt with the OSA).
We have many
enquiries from the public asking us to recommend a 'good
school' to train. With an increased number of
litigation cases being seen through the courts nowadays,
we understand that the public demand high professional
standards from such schools. Likewise, it is good practice
for all instructors to produce their own Port Folio, (CV),
to protect themselves against unscrupulous individuals
claiming that they were misinformed or uninformed of their
training programme.
Many martial arts
styles involve 'contact' training within their
syllabus and it is little wonder that the unscrupulous
individual may be keen to 'cry wolf' for financial
gain, regardless of the best intentions of the instructor.
That is why
evidence-based training within your school is so vital for
both student and instructor alike. To ensure 'informed
consent' by the school minimises failure of
communication between the school and its members. For
instance, by producing learning packs and DVD's to study
reduces the 'barriers to communication' for all
concerned.
Many instructors are
worried that they will have to change their teaching
practices if they are asked to use evidence within their
teaching. In many cases, they find that they are able to
improve their training programmes by looking at what they
actually do teach. Of course, there are some who are
presently managing schools with no structure to what they
are trying to teach and it is those who are most
vulnerable and therefore will benefit the most from our
support.
It is
ironic that the publics perception of a 'good instructor'
is based on 'hear-say' or of a 'high-grade'. Yet within
the 'martial arts world', we often see the opposite.
It is
now time for change.
It is
now time for martial arts qualifications to be recognised
by generic governing bodies.
The
OSA is dedicated to promoting high standards for martial
arts.
To
do this, we must first 'Stand-Up' and be counted.
Introducing
a Database for Instructors with a CV
allows
potential new students to make an 'informed-choice' to
study.
To
be a good teacher we must first be willing to learn.
We
offer all our instructors comprehensive courses to
develop.
The
OSA facilitates both martial arts achievements and
encompasses generic qualifications
which
allows them to be recognised and therefore accepted by
national governing bodies.
To
this end, it is no longer acceptable to be recognised by
just the 'Martial Arts World'.
We
offer many services such as formal educational programmes
to all who wish to learn.
If
you wish to advertise yourself with us, please contact us
so that we may ratify your
qualifications
If
you require an OSA Professional Record to complete
your CV as part of your Port Folio or/and
wish to join the Black Sash School as a Student or as
an Instructor and take part in our Weekend and Weekly
Courses please contact us.
