Leadership Courses
These courses are awareness programmes and not tactics courses. Trying to get an even balance between techniques and under-pinning information can be difficult. To this end, only individuals who have the required technical knowledge and skills will be accepted

It is understood that once a course is completed it will prepare the individual with the appropriate information necessary to develop their leadership skills in the right way, which will lead to the acceptance by generic governing bodies such as educational establishments and corporate businesses

Collectively we are helping and advising one another, we're breaking down barriers, sharing skills and ideas whilst forging new friendships and having fun in the process, the way things should be

Please remember, the OSA strongly encourages its affiliates to retain their present affiliations upon registration

The OSA is open to all regardless of style/system or instructional rank/grade/status and does NOT promote martial arts politics, have no hidden agendas and will not interfere with its valued affiliates practices - simple!

Registering with the OSA is FREE

Accountability

Responsibility:

Referees and officials hold a position of responsibility and other people rely on them. They are professionally accountable to the Professional Referees & Officials Union , as well as having a contractual accountability to their employer and are accountable to the law for their actions

The code says that:

“As a professional, you are personally accountable for actions and omissions in your practice and must always be able to justify your decisions”.

and,

“You must always act lawfully, whether those laws relate to your professional practice or personal life.”

If a referee or official is asked to officiate they consider unsafe or harmful to a person in their supervision, they should carefully consider their actions and raise their concerns to the appropriate person

Referees and officials must act in the best interest of the person in their supervision at all times

Delegation:

If the referee or official is delegating supervision to another professional, support staff  they must delegate effectively and are accountable for the appropriateness of the delegation. The code requires that Referees and officials must:

  • establish that anyone they delegate to is able to carry out their instructions
  • confirm that the outcome of any delegated task meets required standards
  • make sure that everyone they are responsible for is supervised and supported

Your judgement:

Accountability is integral to professional practice. Referees and officials make judgements in a wide variety of circumstances. Referees and officials use their professional knowledge, judgement and skills to make a decision based on evidence for best practise and the person’s best interests. Referees and officials need to be able to justify the decisions they make

Mission Statement

The Professional Referees & Officials Union exists to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public

We do this by maintaining a register of referees and officials, setting standards for education and practice, and giving guidance and advice to the professions

We aim to inspire confidence by ensuring that the referees and officials on our register are fit to practise and by dealing swiftly and fairly with those who are not

Knife & Edged Weapon Awareness Programme

Section 3(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1967:

A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large

A & E Assessment

If someone walks in to A & E, they will be assessed based on the depth of the wound, its angle and where it is on their body as well as the amount of blood a person is losing. When a stabbing victim is being brought in by ambulance, the emergency team is ready in the resuscitation room to receive them. People who carry knives do recognise the damage that can be done and usually have a 'bravado' in their attitude. If you believe carrying a knife is for your own self-defence then the reality is that pulling a knife is likely to result in someone being seriously injured
